STAP-BOY aiming for Military Purpose

A new program is in the block and is name as STAP-BOY, i.e. space-time adaptive processing. Its main is to convert, “any Soldier, any Marine [into] an advanced sensor platform.” To fulfill this goal, Military is aiming for the “”commercial Graphics Processor Unit (GPU) hardware and software of the type currently used for fast geometry computations in hand-held electronic games like Nintendo’s GAME BOY.” In this manner they would gift soldiers with, “technique that enhances the ability of radars to detect targets that might otherwise be obscured.” Mostly advance supercomputers are capable to do this. According to Darpa, this project would be handed over to the Army by the year 2008. Via:dsfanboy
