Rumble Control + Motion Sensor = Logitech’s Wii-mote rival

It seems like monopoly in PC peripheral industry failed to quench Logitech’s thirst for status and riches, hence has thrown hat into the gaming ring as the company has expressed its wish to develop a gaming controller. Chris Spearing, UK and Ireland manager for Logitech, has informed that his company is contemplating a new gaming peripheral that is virtually a Wiimote substitute. The new peripheral will be a combination of two distinct features – 1) Wii-mote’s motion-sensing capability 2) Sixaxis’ rumble control Talking about rumble vs. motion control issue, Spearing said that Sixaxis’ force-feedback really works for some games. And for the Wii-mote’s intuitive motion-sensing feature, he said people rush out to score a Wii for realism, which they get while swinging a tennis racket or waving arm to and fro while playing Bowling. The idea is unique and both the vibrant features collectively tend to do a great job. Once they figure out what technology the controllers bring in use, they’d immediately put unrivaled idea into practice. However, the company has yet to make a formal announcement, but we are quite sure that the company will develop the new hybrid controller for the PS3. May God bless Nintendo with peace (lolzz). Is Sony gaming phone coming in February?

Known for its Walkman and music phones, Sony Ericsson is planning to enter in the arena of gaming mobile phones. Sony Ericsson will unveil its first gaming phone at the Mobility World Congress. The Mobile Entertainment stated that Sony Ecrisson will introduce a gaming phone in February, featured with games-oriented user interface and motion sensitivity, which allows users to play a game like Wii on their handsets. There is a feverish speculation that Sony is working on a PlayStation-branded phone. Sony Ericsson’s gaming guru Peter Ahnegard stated that Smartphones like the W960, P1 and associated families have hardware acceleration and OpenGL ES and are capable of providing gaming experiences on a level similar to PSP, certainly somewhere between PS1 and PS2. Now, mobile phones are taking duties of digital camera, MP3 player but still gaming is dominated by handhelds like Sony PSP and Nintendo DS. Firstly, Nokia was the one who attempted the first to integrate gaming into its phones with the N-gage. Nokia is bringing another device in this November but this time Nokia is focusing on software rather than hardware Image: Tech digest

BluWave PS3 remote & Charge Base from Nyko

The leading gaming peripherals developer, Nyko has introduced two new accessories designed for PS3 console. The peripherals are The ChargeBase (a SIXAXIS controller charger) and BluWave (an infrared remote control) that make a good use of traditional infrared light waves to communicate with PS3 consoles. The ChargeBase is the peripheral that provides PS3 owners a charging and storage solution for rumbling SIXAXIS controllers. The charging station can very easily accommodate four chargers at a time with featuring an external power supply in place of USB power. With a more prolific approach, the charger can be plugged directly into any wall outlet. On the other hand, BluWave remote control is the device designed exclusively for PS3, allows an easy access to movies and music on Blu-Ray, DVD, and CD. As we see the design of the controller, we don’t find any innovative work as the peripherals come with pretty traditional look, but entrenched Polyurethane coated buttons provide an additional comfort and durability that won’t get torn-off, so easily. So, if you find it quite uncomfortable with a cluster of cables laying around your table, get your hands on cable-free ChargeBase charger for just $40. Via: engadget

Games for even the youngest gamers

Are you having problems keeping your child entertained? The Internet has opened new doors for entertainment. Now your favorite game is just a click away. As there are hundreds of games available online, it becomes challenging at times to find the right one. Web-based games can also be categorized according to their user-base. Some games are specifically meant for the adults, whereas there are some others that have been designed keeping in mind the requirements of children. A teenager might not like an online game that is largely animated in nature. Likewise, a ten-year old child would not be interested in playing a game that is difficult to understand. According to WSOP, a popular and interesting game that is developing a tremendous fan following is bingo. It is a game in which numbered balls are drawn at random, and the player covers the corresponding number on his cards. This game requires the user to handle multiple tasks at a time. High level of concentration is involved to play this game. This is the reason why playing bingo is a great method to sharpen the brain. We try to remain fit by exercising different part of the body. However, rarely do we exercise our brain. Online games that stimulate the human brain should be made a part of our routine. The biggest advantage of web-based games is that you do not need to go to a park to play them. You can play online games conveniently sitting in your bedroom or living room. Online games are accessible anytime you want. All you need is a computer and an Internet connection. Online games also let you make friends. Cash prizes and other rewards are also associated with Internet games. Bingo is for everyone. However, it is especially beneficial for young children. Children should be exposed to games that can teach them something, or have the potential to stimulate their brains.

Does Farmville Make People Want to Grow Real Gardens?

Farmville is a real time simulation game developed for Facebook that allows users to grow virtual gardens and crops and harvest them; Farmville is also the most popular game on Facebook at the moment. So, because Farmville is extremely popular with so many people does this mean that those people will actually make the effort to plant and maintain a real garden? The answer is most likely no, although so many people love growing a garden online it takes so little effort to do so, all they have to do is click a button and everything is done for them, so why go get dirty outside messing about with real dirt and plants. There might be a few people though who have actually been inspired to go out and buy vegetable seeds to start a magnificent vegetable garden and that could be one instance of Farmville teaching people something useful, but otherwise Farmville seems to make people too lazy to go out and do the real thing. Of course, any person who is naturally very curious about things will wonder what it would be like to harvest their own garden after having played Farmville. However, it is interesting to note that although the game may inspire interest in many people, it does not mean that it will inspire them to actually go out and do it for real. Some would try, perhaps, but will soon find that it just isn’t something they enjoy doing – it’s much harder in real life than it seems in the game. The point is that although the game is very attractive and addictive, most of the people who play it know that it isn’t at all like the real thing – there are many factors that influence the success of growing a garden, and many of these factors are absent in the game. Perhaps the greatest attractive feature of the game is the fact that you can create the garden of your dreams without having to worry about all these “real-world” factors.

2010 Winter Freeze Immobilizes Thousands

What has been the coldest winter in decades ended officially on the first of March, and the cold temperatures seem to be showing signs of easing, but there could still be more icy times ahead, meteorologists say. The record-breaking winter, which killed 79 people in Poland, grounded planes in Britain, and decimated tomato crops in Florida, has been one of the coldest on record in the northern hemisphere. The winter has had devastating effects on markets, from food to online casinos like Caesars online, the latter receiving a boost from gamblers opting to stay home rather than weather the icy temperatures between their computer and the casinos’ gaming tables. Poland has recovered from its devastating freeze, now recording daily minimums of around -7oC in Krakow. However, retail sales still have a long way to go after suffering heavy blows during the disastrous December freeze. Longer-lasting effects are being felt in places like Florida, where the winter has taken a huge toll on agriculture, particularly Florida’s tomato crops, 70% of which were wiped out by the freeze. “I’ve never seen it like this.” Said Jim Ayoob, the President of produce wholesaler, Tom Ayoob Inc. “The price is high, the availability is slim, and the quality is only fair.” The meteorological winter ended on the first of March, however, cold temperatures are expected to continue for at least a few more weeks. Meteorologists at the University of Liverpool estimate that both March and April will be cooler than average months, with temperatures falling 0.7°C and 0.4°C below monthly averages respectively. As snow continues to fall faster than it melts in many parts of the developed world, it seems there is little more for us to do than click our heels together and say, “There’s no season like spring.” But, then again, for those less inclined to fantasize, there’s always online casinos.

Will tablets eventually have the capability to rival portable game consoles?

Tablets are the in thing in today’s gadget world. The launch of the iPad has, among other things, set things rolling in the tablet world, and everyone and his brother is trying to buy a tablet and show his neighbor; especially some of the devices that come with offers like free cruise deals, free plane tickets and the like. The question remains, though, how good are the tablets, how capable they are? For avid gamers like myself, the question always is going to be, are the tablets gonna replace the portable game consoles, or not? I am thinking, maybe yes, they would. After all, a game console is just that, a game console, while a tablet is many things at once. The tremendous technological marvel that goes into making a tablet gives it a clear and bright screen, high speed RAM, ergonomic and good handling, and fast processor performance. Now read this and think what you want in a good game console. What else but a clear, bright screen, good RAM, good handling and fast processor. So if your tablet is giving you all that, and more besides (it’s basically a full fledged computer, after all) why would you need a portable game console? There’s something good to be said about “dedicated” gaming, of course. But a tablet can be made into one – I mean, just set up a drive to be a game console, so that when you enter it, you leave out everything else and get gaming. Since that’s also perfectly possible with a tablet, it takes away the one thing that a dedicated gaming console had going for itself – dedicated gaming. So, tablets are really going to replace the game consoles, if you ask me.

Don’t Spend – Trade!

A lot of people love to play games. Table top board games, casino games, and video games are such a significant part of many people’s lives, they might find it hard not to play them almost every day. Maybe you have a love of games. But you might also find, at the end of the month, that your indulgence in World of Warcraft or the latest console game to come down the pike is a little on the pricey side… and that games are a little less fun when you don’t have any money left over to fill your belly with. Fortunately, there is a solution – and not necessarily the one you might be thinking of. One solution is obviously to cut down on your gaming habits – which does carry the benefit that you could go outside and get a tan or something. But the other, much more fun solution is to find ways of making more money. No, not getting another job – that would take away your game time. You can trade in things, so you are no longer spending your food and rent money. Most people have a “secret stock pile” of things lying around in their homes. These things could be antiques, old games that you no longer play (that can be traded in for new ones), out of date computer hardware, or even old jewelry. The value of gold is as high as it has ever been in human history, and even old silver is a worthwhile trade item if you have any. And where do you trade in your old stock pile? You can try eBay, Amazon, GameStop, or a host of other venues. You might even try your local flea market, where a vendor might take your items on consignment, in exchange for a cut of the proceeds if it sells. And of course, there is always the good old pawn shop.

Colleges with the best Game Design Programs

Video games have finally made the big jump from the college dormitory to the college classroom. With the huge boom in the entertainment industry, some of the most exciting jobs are in the arena of videogames whether in game design, programming or the associated arts. If you are looking for a career in this area, here are your various options. By the way, you should remember that there is still some form of academic revulsion to the term “game” and colleges and universities often prefer to call video game design by terms such as “Digital arts” or “interactive media”. You could opt for one of the many “crash” programs that are available and claim to train you in the shortest period of time. These programs, however, provide you a limited knowledge and little flexibility, and have no value in the eyes of a discerning employer. You would be far better off with one of the colleges that provide a proper full-time degree in videogame design. Even the big-name universities such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Carnegie Mellon Institute are providing programmes on the fringes. The Georgia Institute of Technology has instituted a Ph.D. program in Digital media and offers a Masters in information design and technology where many students study videogame design. Some other schools and colleges with a high reputation are: – The University of Arizona offers courses that might interest students who want to get into digital media art – The ITT Technical Institutes which offer bachelors in Digital Entertainment and Game Design and cover topics such as gaming design and gaming technology – Westwood College of Technology offers bachelors degree in both Game Art and Design and Game Software Development. – Minnesota School of Business offers a program called Associate-Programming and Game Development that is designed so that you have the ability to develop games from the concept stage to the completed product.
